Emergency shows what is stopped on THORChain right now and why: chain halts, trading pauses, LP pauses, the global flags, the node pause and the node votes behind them. For node operators it builds the commands that run on the node (make pause, make resume, make mimir, make ban, make upgrade-vote, make relay); THORWallet never holds the node key. A chain counts as halted when scanning, trading or signing is off for it.

THORChain can stop single functions per chain through mimir: scanning (reading the chain), trading (swaps), LP (deposits) and signing (outbound transactions). Global flags stop a function on every chain at once, and any active node can pause all chains for a number of blocks (the NODEPAUSECHAINGLOBAL mimir). A chain halt is set by admin mimir or when 2/3 of active nodes vote HALT<chain>CHAIN.
2 of 13 chains have a halt: Cosmos Hub (scanning, trading, signing); Solana (trading, signing). Global trading is not halted. The table on this page is read live from mimir; see the time above.
Any active node can pause all chains with make pause for 720 blocks (about 1h 13m). Pauses stack, and make resume takes the same number of blocks off again. Each node gets one pause or resume per churn. The current pause end height is the NODEPAUSECHAINGLOBAL mimir.
Each active node votes with make mimir: HALT<chain>CHAIN set to 1 halts that chain, 0 votes it back on. The key changes once 2/3 of active nodes (74) vote for the same value. A chain can also be halted by admin mimir, then it shows as halted with few or no node votes.
A churn rotates the validator set. Every churn interval (now 43,200 blocks, about 3d 1h) THORChain removes the lowest bond, the worst performer and the oldest node, plus nodes that asked to leave or run an old version, and the ready standby nodes with the highest bond take their place (up to 4 new nodes per churn). At churn the accrued rewards are added to each bond. Unbonding and leaving are blocked while vaults migrate. While the HALTCHURNING mimir is set, no rotation happens and rewards keep building. Churning is halted right now.
